A SERIES OF PAPERS ON THE ORIGIN OF THE MOON AND OF THE MOONS OF MARS
The LEF Model of Lunar Origin
Lunar Elevation and Fission: the Moon built from the Earth while attached to it, and released at the corotation radius
We propose that the Moon was built from terrestrial material while still attached to the Earth, and was released where the Earth's rotation had already given it orbital speed. The LEF model is a process model: it sets out a sequence of physical events, and for each event the papers give the number that sets it and the observation that tests it. Paper 1 presents the whole process; Papers 2–9 and 11 take its parts one at a time; Paper 10 applies a related account to the moons of Mars; Paper 12 collects the research topics the model opens.
